Del Mar: Carryover reaches $157,244

An upset win by Bonifacio ($42) in Friday's Daisycutter Handicap has led to a carryover of $157,244 for Saturday's 10-race program.

The pool of new money bet in the pick six is likely to surpass $1 million on Saturday.

The pick six covers the fifth through 10th races on Saturday. There were early scratches on Friday in three of those races. In the seventh race, Salty Fries is withdrawn from an optional claimer over a mile on turf. In the eighth race, Indian Winter is scratched from a maiden race for 2-year-odds over six furlongs. In the 10th race, a maiden race for statebred 2-year-old fillies, Russian Bayou has been withdrawn.

The featured race is the ninth, the $150,000 La Jolla Handicap for 3-year-olds over 1 1-16 miles on turf. Sidney's Candy is the 7-5 morning-line favorite in the La Jolla, his first start on turf. Sidney's Candy won the Santa Anita Derby in April and was 17th in the Kentucky Derby on May 1. The stakes winners Golden Itiz (4-1 on the morning-line) and Leroy's Dynameaux (9-2), and the improving Kid Edward (9-2), are capable of winning if Sidney's Candy does not take to turf.
