Del Mar: Carava is warming up

After a relatively slow start to the meeting, trainer Jack Carava's stable is starting to demand attention.

In Sunday's seventh race, Wild Rose ($13.20) rallied on the rail to win an optional claimer over a mile by a half-length over Hopeful Union in 1:35.97. For Carava, it was his second winner in his last six runners, and third win from 20 starters at the meeting. With his last 10 runners, Carava has won twice, had two seconds and one third. He went through a drought of 13 races without a win, but the stable seems to be in better form currently.

Carava has one more starter on Sunday - Social Event, a 6-1 chance on the morning-line, in the 10th race, a sprint over six furlongs for $16,000 claimers. Carava is a private trainer for La Canada Stables, the only private set-up in California.
