Del Mar: Calle Vista inherits leads, wins

Making his first start around two turns on turf, Calle Vista ($13.20) led throughout an optional claimer over 1 1-16 miles in Friday's seventh race, a task helped greatly by the scratch of expected pacesetter Ruination.

Calle Vista, who was ridden by Martin Garcia, set a slow pace of 25.03 and 50.54 seconds and pulled away to win by 1 3-4 lengths over Initial Impression. Nan, the 2-1 favorite, finished third.

Calle Vista races for Gerald Ford and trainer Richard Mandella. The 4-year-old filly has won 2 of 5 starts, with a maiden win coming over a mile on the main track at Golden Gate Fields last March.

Ruination became upset in the gate and was withdrawn. At the time, she was 3-1. The filly was walked to a gap between the turf course and the main track and was vanned off.
