Del Mar: Better luck for Kruljac

Trainer Eric Kruljac won Thursday's third race with the pacesetter Lasso From El Paso ($15.40) a little more than a half-hour after the trainer's North Fork reared at the start of the day's second race just as the gates opened.

Lasso From El Paso, a 2-year-old filly by Smoke Glacken, made no mistakes in a sprint over 5 1-2 furlongs for maiden claimers. She led throughout under jockey Tyler Baze, winning by a half-length over Mia Isabel, the 6-5 favorite who pressured the winner for the final half-mile. Lasso From El Paso was the fifth choice in a field of six and was timed in 1:03.34.

Lasso From El Paso won the first leg of a pick six pool that reached a modest $161,526.
