Del Mar: Bejarano wins fourth in stakes

Jockey Rafael Bejarano won his fourth race on Friday aboard Wickedly Perfect ($13.80) in the Grade 3 Sorrento Stakes for 2-year-old fillies.

Bejarano kept Wickedly Perfect behind a quick pace of 21.89 and 44.90 seconds set by Dawnie Macho and Final Mesa, took the lead with a three-wide move in early stretch and won by a length over A Z Warrior. Earlier, Bejarano won three consecutive races from the third through fifth.

Wickedly Perfect will be pointed for the $250,000 Darley Debutante over seven furlongs here on Sept. 4, trainer Doug O'Neill said.

The disappointment in the race was Final Mesa, the 9-5 favorite. She faded to finish sixth in the field of seven. Owner-trainer Wesley Ward debated whether to scratch Final Mesa on Friday morning after expressing concern about the way she worked a half-mile 51.80 seconds on Aug. 1, but decided to leave her in the race.
