Email

Al Instante, the seventh choice in a field of eight, roared through the stretch to spring a 22-1 upset in Friday's fourth race, an optional claimer over five furlongs on turf.

Al Instante ($46.40) gave jockey Hector Berrios his first career win at Del Mar. Berrios had previously ridden on the East Coast. Al Instante was the third straight non-favorite to win on Friday, all in pick six races.

Al Instante finished three-quarters of a length in front of Brutally Handsome, who finished a head in front of longtime leader L.A. Weekend.

Al Instante races for Green Grass Stable and trainer Ruben Cardenas. A 4-year-old Chilean-bred colt, Al Instante had been sixth and fifth in two starts at Hollywood Park since arriving in this country.
