Del Mar: A bad start, a winning favorite

Seeuat Sticknstein ($3.60) rallied to win Wednesday's fifth race for $12,500 claimers, but many eyes were on last-place finisher Del Mar Truckee, whose jockey, Jesus Velazquez, lost an iron when the gelding stumbled at the start.

Del Mar Truckee was racing on the rail and was as close as third in the first quarter-mile, but fell back steadily as Velazquez tried to regain control, which he was never able to do.

Seeuat Sticknstein made his fourth start of the meeting. He was claimed for $20,000 from a win on July 23, finished eighth in a $40,000 claimer on Aug. 8 and fourth in a $20,000 claimer on Aug. 22, beaten three-quarters of a length. There were no claims placed for Seeuat Sticknstein on Wednesday, but sixth-place finisher Purse Lava was claimed in a two-way shake by Jack Carava.
