Del Mar: Andina wins first stakes

Andina ($8.40) won her first stakes in Saturday's Osunitas Stakes for fillies and mares, holding off a late threat from Wild Mia to win the turf race over 1 1-16 miles by a head. Wild Mia finished a nose in front of City to City in the field of nine fillies and mares.

Andina was ridden by Garrett Gomez for trainer Ben Cecil, and was the 4-year-old filly's first win since an optional claimer at Santa Anita in March. She was later sixth in the Grade 2 Santa Barbara at Santa Anita, and second in the Redondo Beach Stakes and third in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Stakes at Hollywood Park before Saturday's race.

Andina was on the rail for much of the race. Gomez moved Andina outside of pacesetter Ninth Infantry in early stretch and the filly immediately quickened to reach the front.

Andina won the first leg of a pick six pool that grew by $765,677 on Saturday. There was a carryover of $104,078 from Friday's program.
