Del Mar: Achak rallies, Jaycito 5th

Achak pulled an upset in Saturday's seventh race, ending a two-race losing streak, and beating a field that included the Grade 1 winner Jaycito, who finished fifth in his first start since March.

Achak ($22.80) finished a half-length in front of Pride of Silver, who had a touch of trouble on the final turn racing in traffic. Achak ran 1 1-16 miles in 1:42.68.

Jaycito, 3, raced in mid-pack and wide on the turn and was beaten approximately four lengths. He won the Grade 1 Norfolk Stakes at Hollywood Park last October. Jaycito battled foot problems in the spring which kept him out of the Santa Anita and Kentucky Derbys. Saturday, Jaycito was part of an entry sent off at 1-2.

Achak was claimed for $40,000 in a two-way shake by trainer Doug O'Neill. Trained for Saturday's race by newly-enshrined Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, Achak, 5, won three consecutive claiming races at Santa Anita and Holllywood Park in the spring.

There is a strong likelihood of a pick six carryover. The $1 pick three linking the first three winners of the pick six paid $7,224.
