Del Mar: Accelerant (16-1) wins debut

Accelerant won his career debut in Wednesday's eighth race over a mile on turf for state-bred maidens, pulling a 16-1 upset in the final leg of a pick six that paid $18,619.

Accelerant ($35.60) was ridden by Christian Santiago Reyes, and was timed in 1:36.76, finishing a head in front of Tribal Nation. Sammartino was third, ahead of an unlucky Marino's Star, who raced on the rail in traffic through the stretch and was beaten only 1 3-4 lengths.

Accelerant, trained by Don Warren, was the longest-priced winner in the pick six, which covered the third through eighth races and attracted a strong weekday pool of $300,558. The winners of the pick six races were Full On ($5.20), Winning Desire ($13), Cee's Pryme ($3.20), California Flag ($4.20), Fund Raiser ($8.80) and Accelerant.
