Dark Day 3: Intermission

Eighteen days down -- well, 17.2 -- and eighteen to go. Here's hoping for better weather ahead.

Tuesday was a beautiful, sunny morning in Saratoga -- probably because there was no racing. Nice day for a drive, though:

Everyone traveled well, and was delighted to be home for a few days:

Back tomorrow with Day 19 and that $55k carryover. And remember: Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your Saratoga.

With the depredations of the rain & the overall quality of the races they've been carding at the Spa, you could probably drop one of those beasts in for a $35k tag & steal a purse.

Hey Steve, did you get the permission of the hounds and that adolescent riding the bike before posting their pictures on the blog? Hey mackenzie, does "interesting" mean you are going to back this horse big at the window, you have some "information" or is it a way of giving out a horse and then having an out if it doesn't do well. Just curious. Regardless, I agree that Premium Wine might be an underlay, because he will be short odds, and I am going to try and beat him with the 2-entry from Bruce Levine. Good Luck.

here we go ... OFF THE TURF TODAY . I know this may sound stupid but couldn't they preserve one of the turf courses and race on the other ?

Steve: Can you please provide this answer if you can: How many races so far at this Saratoga meet have had to be taken off the turf and how many races have been run on the turf? Thanks in advance!

Got a few interesting plays today (if we stay on turf): Schwartz has a clone of Scooty The Pro running today. They have worked together four times, share the same owner, breeder and jock, they both debuted in the slop and didn't fire. Scooty was dropping though and this one isn't (Tough But Fair-R7)...America's Dreaming in R5 is a Toner/Team Valor production. Barry Irwin said early in the meet that they have sent their best to Toner this meet. Even though DRF says Toner has a 4:0-0-1 record this meet I swear Valor/Toner sent Aquino to a second place finish on 25July. I may be mistaken, mighta been Hennig. Also note that Johnny V rides for Penna in this race and not Pletcher. He and Pletcher have a debut 2yr old turf route winner this meet(High Cry)but he bails today...Certain Circles in R6 is another that I like today. Prado rides for Casse for the first time this meet (usually it's Bridgmohan) on a horse who has thrown a Beyer top in both of his last Lay 3 efforts. Was blocked in his last and ran on well, and has a work over the SAR surface. Casse has been firing this meet and the presence of Prado is a positive sign,IMO. Price should be good, too. Now, go out there and make me look foolish boys!

8/13 Shone - 3rd at Saratoga on 04AUG2007 despite bobbling at the start. 2 wins at Churchill in 2008. Scratched at Belmont on July 18. Interesting.
