Continuing with the “Horses to Watch” theme, here's one that caught my eye earlier this month. BACKYARD HEAVEN     Trained by Chad Brown, this 3-year-old son of Tizway made his career debut in one-mile maiden special weight at Belmont on September 10. As you can see by utilzing the "Next Race" function in the Formulator chart, it was an extremely live race.

Although Sharp Azteca (profiled in the February 16 edition of FormBlog - http://www.drf.com/blogs/sharp-azteca-impressive-gulfstream) was too much for the field in last Saturday’s Grade 1 Cigar Mile, I was just as impressed with the runner-up’s performance.

The Cigar Mile, the last Grade 1 stakes race in New York this year, highlights this weekend's racing.    It's the Saturday DRFBets Race of the Day and you can access free Formulator past performances at this link:    http://www.drf.com/events/race-of-the-day   Mike Beer and I go over the race in the following video feature:

Welcome back to FormBlog!   As you know, we've had some technical issues regarding the new site that knocked us offline for the last few months. Hopefully, all of our issues have been resolved, but this post is a test to see if the major functions, especially the commenting section, are in working order. Since this is a quick test, I won't restart HandiGambling until all of the kinks have been worked out. I'll probably post again after the Thanksgiving holiday with a focus on the Cigar Mile day of racing on Saturday, December 2 at Aqueduct.

CERRO's road has been full of twists and turns.    Bred in Ireland, he won his career debut on turf in Italy before being sent to the United States. Initially campaigned here by Team Valor Stables in a partnership that included Olympic legend Michael Phelps, Cerro was briefly on the Triple Crown trail in 2013. He won the Canonero II Stakes going nine furlongs on dirt at Pimlico that spring and placed in a pair of stakes races around two turns (one on turf) at Delaware Park during the fall.
