Classy Class back in form
Although multiple Grade 3-placed going two turns as a 3-year-old, CLASSY CLASS returned from a lengthy layoff last fall as a sprinter and it appears trainer Kiaran McLaughlin has found the veteran's niche.
Last week, Classy Class earned a career-best 101 Beyer Speed Figure after wiring three others in an 'n3x' optional claimer at Aqueduct. It was a rock-solid performance that should immediately propel him into stakes competititon. Breaking from the rail as the 3 to 2 favorite, Classy Class set a rated opening quarter of 23.98 while hounded from the outside by BIG GUY IAN. LIFE IN SHAMBLES made a three-wide bid on the far turn to prompt the leaders after a half-mile in 46.76, but Classy Class soon scooted away. Kept to his business by Rajiv Maragh, Classy Class completed 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.74.
The victory began a big three-day stretch for McLaughlin as the trainer compiled a 5-0-1 record from eight starters including victories in the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes with DICKINSON and the Grade 3 Ben Ali Stakes with WATERSHED. McLaughlin mentioned to DRF's David Grening that the Diablo Stakes at Belmont on May 7 and/or the Grade 2 True North on the Belmont Stakes undercard are possible next races for Classy Class.
A $120,000 weanling purchase that resold for $250,000 as a yearling, Classy Class is by Discreetly Mine, a sire that now stands in South America after a stint at Lane's End Farm in Kentucky. Discreetly Mine's son, Senior Investment, won the Grade 3 Lexington Stakes last week and could be headed to the Preakness.
The dam, Collegiate (by Saarland), placed third in the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes traveling 7 furlongs at Saratoga, and is a half-sister to Grade 3 winning dirt sprinter Good Student (in Argentina) and multiple stakes-winning dirt sprinter The Student.
Despite his sprint-oriented pedigree, Classy Class showed enough in his career debut, a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight win at Aqueduct, to briefly join the Kentucky Derby trail. He picked up minor checks in the Remsen, Withers and Gotham before placing fifth in the Blue Grass. Classy Class won two races around one-turn during the remainder of his 3-year-old campaign, then missed over a year's worth of racing due to injury.
Since his comeback, he has stayed at shorter distances while utilizing a stalking style. Earlier in his career, Classy Class showed big speed and it's heartening to see that he's reverted to that successful style in his last few races. Keep an eye on him as an exotics threat, at the very least, in upcoming sprint stakes races.

Congrats to Alfredo for winning the most recent HandiGambling challenge.
Rick M and SR VEGAS' HG scoreboard spreadsheet is available at the bottom of this blog post.
Alfredo selected Saturday's Mizdirection Stakes from Santa Anita as this week's exercise.
PAST PERFORMANCES ARE AVAILABLE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS BLOG POST.
SR Vegas and Rick M. have graciously decided to update all of the HG rules in order to make them an easier read for everyone...
HANDIGAMBLING version 2016:
Let's remember WHY we began the HandiGambling races in the first place.
The goal was to share ideas on why we like these horses and why we're betting them the way we are. We are not asking for a novel but SPARE A SENTENCE OR TWO outlining your HANDICAPPING ANGLES and/or THOUGHT PROCESSES about WAGERING.
1. Start your post with HG or HANDIGAMBLING to find your entry in a thread.
2. You have a mythical $100 to wager in whatever format you choose that is available for that HG race. Anyone going over the $100 limit will be DISQUALIFIED.
3. Post your WAGER and ANALYSIS to the blog prior to the start of the designated race. SIGN OFF WITH YOUR NAME/OR MONIKER AT THE END OF YOUR POST. Remember that posts may start as 'anonymous' or an 'alternate name'. You MUST SIGN YOURSELF AT THE END (even if it is the same) This enables the scorekeeper to identify who you are.
4. (1) ONE ENTRY per person for the Handigambling contest. If you have multiple email addresses, use just ONE for contest purposes. Multiple entries will be cause for disqualification.
5. Separate your analysis from the wager and use the PROGRAM # in your wager. Just like you would do in a real wager. No horse names.
6. If any of the rules listed above aren't met, the wager is subject to review which can lead to disqualification of your entry.
In the event of a tie, the earliest post gets first preference. Dan reserves the right to approve or deny any entries.
The winner will receive a "60-Card Quarterly Formulator Past Performance Plan"
As an example :
The speed in this race are #1 Alpha, #2 Beta, and #8 Ocho. I like the works for layoff horse #5 Cinco who can sit off the pace. Lots of speed in here, so this could set up for a closer like #6 Six Flags and I like the trainer's stats in these conditions. I’ll put the closer over the speed.
$10 EX 6 / 1,2,5, 8 = $40
$5 TRI 6 / 1,2,5,8 / 1,2,5,8 = $60
A MORE DETAILED ANALYSIS IS ALWAYS APPRECIATED !
REMEMBER, IF YOU ARE DECLARED THE WINNER OF THE HANDIGAMBLING EXERCISE; PLEASE CONTACT FORMBLOG@DRF.COM WITH YOUR DRF LOGIN AND PASSWORD IN ORDER TO ACCESS YOUR PRIZE PACKAGE.
ALSO, IF THE WINNER WOULD LIKE TO SELECT THE FOLLOWING WEEK'S RACE, PLEASE CONTACT FORMBLOG@DRF.COM NO LATER THAN THE FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY MORNING (A SATURDAY RACE IS MOST IDEAL)

Thanks for responding!
I am safely logged in. And for now, I will just stay away from the Member Center as I found another way to get what I want. (See below). However, as the Professor mentioned, there is a place on the Member page which has the 25 top 2017 Derby contenders which cannot be accessed. I'm sure many subscribers would like to be able to get that. Earlier that part had the 2016 contenders.
It would be interesting to see how many Formbloggers are getting the messed up Member page, but hardly anyone seems to be posting the last couple of days. I wonder if some are now unable to post.
Too bad your GUEST SUITE didn't quite make it into the Derby, but I'm sure you'll see him running in some other races. Good luck when he runs!!!
Had issues, reported to Dan, still scared with the response to posting on an un-secured site.
You Feel Lucky,
I see your SYNDERGAARD will be back in the William Walker Stakes at CD on Sat. At 4-5, I'm sure you don't want to bet him, but at least he's back. :)
Your J BOYS ECHO will now be ridden by Luis Saez in the Derby. Wasn't someone just talking about him? Saez, I mean, not J Boy. Too bad his regular jockey, Albarado, got hurt. Good luck in the Derby!!
Annie, try logging in with the "log in" icon on the main page of the DRF site....don't go to members...on the first page in the upper right hand corner there are two icons, one of them "log in"...try that way....if you already haven't...
Hi David and KNM,
You two, myself, and the Professor seem to be the only ones still on Planet Formblog. I am much happier this morning. I spent two days agonizing over a Member Page that looks like it was created by a drunken monkey. Only half the page shows and the part where you access your subscription PPs is not there. The part for Formulator is there, but I use the Classic PPs.
Well, this morning, I discovered that I can forget about the Member Page and just click on Handicapping & PPs on the header. Then clicking on Classic PPs, It brings me to the list of tracks and dates available and I can get the PPs I want. Oh joy and happiness! : )
Thanks for coming forth to try to help me. You, too, Professor. I don't know what is going on. I sent a note to Lonnie at customer service and he answered me right away, but the only suggestion he had was "clearing the cache". That did not help. It's the same even on my Ipad.
If you can post, please let us know if you are having the same problem.
Which pps do you want?
Americans love the NFL. We cannot get enough. The NFL draft is tonight. Typically, the Cleveland Browns pick first because they stink. They stink because they have bad players, a bad front office and revolving head coaches. Those bad players were picked at the draft. Now the Browns have made some good #1 picks including Jim Brown (1957), Paul Warfield (1964), Clay Matthews and Ozzie (1978), and Joe Thomas (2007). But over the last 15 years they have gotten it wrong more times than Jim Cramer on Mad Money. Whiffs include Courtney Brown, Tim Couch, Kamerion Wimberly, Brady Quinn, Brandon Weeden, Barkevious Mingo, and the ultimate miss in Johnny Football. Johnny was over-inflated on hype and under-inflated on size and work ethic. I give the Browns some points for drafting Barkevious. Simply sounds like a football name. Unfortunately, he turned out to be more bark than bite.
I wonder if horse racing was holding a draft tonight who would go #1 if you included earnings potential on or off the track. Arrogate seems logical. He is a really fast horse running in a age of slow horses. Nice dynamic. Arrogate has morphed into an equine cash cow. He should provide big time cash flow for years as a sire. Then you have Tapit is standing in Kentucky. Fort Knox on Wiki is now listed as the second richest spot in Kentucky behind Gainesway Farm. At $300,000 a date you could own your own island picking Tapit #1. How about American Pharaoh. If his offspring can run he would be a great pick to have on your “team”. Plus he is a lot younger than Tapit. Filly lovers may go to Songbird who has both on track and off track potential for years. If you love a comeback story how about Lady Eli. She would fit on a roster with her grassy runs plus residual as a broodmare. Overseas Deep Impact is a favorite of mine as well.
Who would the Cleveland Browns take with the #1 pick in a horse racing draft? They would likely rely on the tape measure. Maybe Dortmund who is a heck of a specimen hoping he is a big time sire. At the horse racing combine he would measure the largest and most powerful. The Browns would likely overrate the measurables then underrate on race film and results. They may lean to Paradise Woods. She is the hottest young thing on the planet today. One race at a supersonic 107, next time 117 and so on. Her resume is similar to Mitch Trubinky's right? That pick sounds a bit “Brownish” doesn’t it. Maybe Classic Empire. He was a champion then stubbed his toe but could take the Derby with a rebound. He does not like to practice much like Johnny Football. If right it could be a Mensa move, if wrong you feel like the Browns with Tim Couch. In the end teams pick for a variety of reasons. The best reasons for me are the guy can play ON the football field, he is healthy and he is a NOT a proven criminal already. Diluted samples, positives tests, girlfriend bashing, and sex parties BEFORE you get to the NFL seem to be bright red flags. Right? As to horse racing I suppose the safe pick is Tapit. Just do the math plus we all have that income tax cut coming. Arrogate would be in my exacta. You get to watch him destroy weak horses in small hopeless fields at 1/9999 a few more times then you have the hope of him doing wonderful things as a sire. Who the Browns got? Who you got?
Belmont opens tomorrow. The world is trending up.
I typed in the link and got a window saying I had to update something from Apple. I did that, typed in the link and got some site in Chinese. I'm not kidding.
I can however get formulator PPs on the member page when I can get in there, because that part shows on the page. But, I don't like Formulator PPs. I want my PPs! Wah!!!
Thanks for responding. So it's not just me. Is DRF getting hacked right before the Derby? Nobody is posting on here either. Maybe some people cannot even do that.
I sent info to Lonnie at Customer Service and explained it doesn't matter what browser I use. I even tried my Ipad, which is a completely different OS and browser, and same thing.
Sometimes I get a note on the home page: Only secure content shown. Or one that says "We are blocking unsecure content for your protection". Who the heck is "we"? This is creepy.
I saw that 25 top contender thing too. I never knew that was on there, but of course now it doesn't work. :) I usually use Classic PPs, but I'll see if that link works for me.
