Churchill Downs: Valid Citizen becomes first two-time winner at the meet, keys 18K Super Hi 5

$5,000 claimers are supposed to be inconsistent. You just wouldn’t know it watching Valid Citizen run.

He won Thursday’s last race for $5,000 claimers, becoming the first horse to win two races at this young Churchill Downs meet. He also won a similar race opening day, Apr. 30.

He raced 5 ½ furlongs in 1:05.50, paying $8 as the favorite and keying a Super Hi 5 that was hit for $18,806.30.

The winning numbers in the Super Hi 5 were 9-1-2-12-5.

Corey Lanerie rode the winner, as he did Apr. 30, for trainer Matt Kordenbrock and owner Kenneth Dalton.
