Churchill Downs: Strike Impact wins sixth race, giving Albarado 900 wins at Churchill

Strike Impact led from start to finish in race six, giving jockey Robby Albarado his 900th winner at Churchill Downs.

Trained by Pat Dupuy - husband of Courier Journal turf writer Jennie Rees - Strike Impact ($6.80) scored his third victory of the year for owner Chester Miller. In defeating a field of starter allowance runners, he raced 1 1/8 miles on a firm turf course in 1:48.48.

A little earlier on the card, trainer Steve Asmussen and jockey Shaun Bridgmohan teamed up to win a pair of races back to back in the fourth and fifth.

Simplify got things started for the duo by taking the fourth, a money allowance, winning by four lengths over favored Ivory Empress and covering six furlongs in 1:10.01.

A race later, Santana Springs dominated a field of nickel claimers in the fifth, covering the same distance in 1:10.52 - a fast time for a low-end runner.

Don't be surprised to see the latter turn into a dominant starter allowance runner for Asmussen, who does well with such types.

Santana Springs, an 8-year-old, is no stranger to the winner's circle - now having won 7 races. In a race many have now long since forgotten - his biggest win came 5 years ago when he won the Grade 2 Amsterdam at Saratoga.
