Churchill Downs: Main track harrowed and "good" for the opener

Email

Sunny skies and a nice wind have helped dry out the Churchill main track. It was upgraded from muddy to good for the opener and has been harrowed.

Expect another upgrade soon to fast.

There is a strong headwind as the horses enter the stretch today. That that means the wind will be at the horse's backs down the backstretch, likely resulting in quick opening quarters.

Mile races - which have a run of about a half-mile on the backstretch - may also be faster than other races on the card given the wind.
