Churchill Downs: Fri. scratches, news

Continuing with what has been a highly eventful spring meet, there were 10 winning $2 tickets, each worth more than $147k, sold in the pick 6 yesterday, with none of them being sold here at Churchill. Nearly $1.6 million was bet into a carryover of $514k left over from the Ky Derby.

The super high 5 also fell yesterday after a $220k carryover enticed nearly $600k more into it, with each $1 winner coming back for more than $21k.

The weather today is dry, although the weathermen keep talking about a 60-percent chance of rain today and 40-percent tomorrow and Sunday. Whatever happens, nothing can match the torrential downpours we had for a few weeks leading up to the Derby. For now, a fast track and firm turf.

On an extremely sad note, a memorial tribute to fallen 24yo jockey Michael Baze will be held after the 4th race today . . . that'll be about 4:30 ET. You left us far, far too early, young man . . .

Reminders: first post for the next 5 Fridays (thru June 10) is 2:45 ET. Also, no 6-figure stakes here until the G3 Louisville on Sat., May 28.

Have taken the liberty of pasting in the early changes for the 11-race Fri. card from the CD website. Good luck today.
