Churchill Downs: Eighth Race goes to Majestic Toy by a whisker

By no means was the eighth race at Churchill Downs Saturday the classiest on the card - or the fastest. But it was certainly one of the most exciting, with victorious Majestic Toy holding off a late bid from Stormy Story to win by what appeared to be an inch in the official photo.

It took the placing judges several minutes to determine the outcome before ultimately posting Majestic Toy (#2) on the toteboard, as the two horses circled outside the winner's circle awaiting the result.

Shaun Bridgmohan - the leading rider at the meet - my have made the difference on Majestic Toy ($7). He got the slow-starting winner in a good position down the backstretch, fanned out behind the two dueling leaders on the turn, and got the jump on the late-running Stormy Story in the stretch.

Earlier on the card, horse for course Ready's Rocket took the second race for $10,000 claimers, improving his Churchill Downs record to 9 for 23.

According to Churchill Downs officials, with statistics provided by Equibase going back to 1976, he is the only horse over that stretch to have won so many races under the Twin Spires.

Ready's Rocket paid $13.
