Churchill Downs: Dialed In wins debut in race seven, one to watch for the future

The word was out that Dialed In was a runner in the seventh, and the colt was backed down to favoritism.

It turns out, the word was right.

Despite racing greenly - breaking last and lugging in badly in the stretch - Dialed In unleashed a furious rally in the final quarter mile to pass eight horses and catch longshot Ninja Blade just before the wire.

The time wasn't particularly fast - 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:17.77 - but the fact Dialed In won at all was what caught the eye.

Besides his slow start, this is a horse that was blocked on the turn, and really only had a chance to run over the final three eighths of the race.

Being by Mineshaft out of a Storm Cat mare, this colt has the pedigree to suggest he will be a force in longer races for trainer Nick Zito and owner Robert LaPenta.
