Churchill Downs: Dad's Crazy DQed from First to Third in Ninth Race

Email

After a lengthy stewards inquiry, Dad's Crazy was disqualified from first in race nine and placed third for interfering with Dixie's Hope in the stretch.

As a result, Rigamaro, who crossed the wire second, was kissed up to first.

Dixie's Hope was then elevated to second place.

Although Dad's Crazy never appeared to make contact with her opponents, she drifted out repeatedly in the stretch despite corrective urging from Garrett Gomez, impeding the progress of Dixie's Hope, who was just a nose out of second place across the post.

The disqualification appeared fully justified, though in the end, Rigamaro was the lucky recipient of the victory - as she was not the horse affected by Dad's Crazy.

Rigamaro, trained by Michael Lauer and ridden by Rosemary Homeister, paid $27.20.
