Churchill: 17-1 shot starts Sat. pick six

The $2 pick six (races 5-10) and its $63k carryover are under way, and after just one race, it already looks like it's going to carry over. Another $75,145 was bet into it today, meaning it should be into six figures tomorrow if it goes unhit again.

Tap N Point (17-1) easily won Race 5 under apprentice Marcelino Pedroza in a race marred by a spill just past the wire. Fortunately, the only jockey involved, Nelson DeSouza (on a pickup mount, at that), did not appear to be seriously injured after Got a Question broke down badly in his left foreleg. The 6yo gelding had to be euthanized.

In earlier events, favored Noontime Diva (8-5) was awarded victory in the 1st when firster Hanover Road (5-2) was deemed guilty of interference in deep stretch; seemed like a 50-50 call from this vantage point, and the stews chose to take the number down. In the 2nd, J.Leparoux picked up the winning mount on Ballistic Blonde, the more well regarded half of a 4-5 Maggi Moss entry; looks like the Frenchman has all the momentum as the final week of the meet nears. Awesome Review (5-1) took the 3rd, and then Regally Ready (3-1) blew doors in the 4th. "This is a nice, nice horse," assistant trainer Scott Blasi said of the 3yo son of More Than Ready, the sire of both 2yo turf winners at the Breeders' Cup 2 weeks ago.

There are 22 MTP for the 6th, and Buzz Town (#9, Leparoux) is the slight favorite in a full field of 12.
