Calder: Wolfson strikes again

Trainer Marty Wolfson has taken horses from Hall of Fame and future Hall of Fame trainers like Bill Mott and Todd Pletcher and turned them into graded stakes winners in the past. Today he did it again, this time with a horse formerly trained by Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey named Toocleverforwords who became a graded stakes winner in her first try when rallying to defeat Joanie's Catch and win the Grade 3 Stage Door Betty.  Toocleverforwords was coming off far and away her best career Beyer effort, a 99, earned when she defeated stablemate Amazing in the Cinnamon Girl overnight stakes here on Oct. 16. Wolfson gave the 5-year-old enough time off to recuperate from the effort and she responded with yet another huge effort as he form continues to improve.  Joanie's Catch, who has also been resurrected a bit following a slow summer, was game in defeat actually getting to the lead in early stretch before proving no match for the winner.  Meanwhile jockey Alan Garcia gave 7-5 Funny Moon no chance to win over the speed favoring track after taking her to the rear of the pack on the first turn and about seven wide entering the stretch.
