CALDER: Wet track looks speed favoring

Email

A hard shower struck here just prior to first post making the track wet and somewhat on the quick side again today. All turf racing had already been cancelled earlier in the day including the $55,000 Donthelumbertrader overnight stakes which will now be run over the main track with a field of just seven 3-year-olds. Saint Jude the original morning line favorite, has been scratched,

Two of the first three races were won on th e front end. The opened was taken by first time starter Cunaguaro who ran down Cordial Dinner in late stretch. The latter was tons the best but got a brutal trip under apprentice Jose Alvarez who broke the 8-5 co-choice slow, ran him up into trouble down the backstretch then forced him to lug in on several occasions through the final furlong with continual right hand pressure.
