Calder: Upsets to start day

A beautiful but hot day in south Florida, sunny, warm and nary a breeze to stir the flags in the infield. The maoin track is fast but on the cuppy side and the turf is firm.

A pair of upsets to open the card, Max's Beau a 14-1 winner over Doctor Garrett and overworked Honey Honey Honey in the first race and Just Chillin Boss at 9-1 winning a speed battle and ultimately the war from runner-up Soldier's Tune to complete a $203.20 double. Kitchenman, a tiny bit of a 2-year-old, whacked to 3-5 in the second but never got in the hunt and finished off the board.

Meanwhile, waiting for ASPCA to show up and make trainer Fred Warren give Honey Honey Honey a rest. The old veteran has run every week since July 15 after being claimed for $5,000 by his present connections. Has been productive, winning twice and just missing a couple of other times during that period but really in need of a little break. At least two weeks before striking the entries again.
