CALDER: Track bias

Clearly the trend that seemed to be developing over the latter half of Saturday's card has continued today with speed horses struggling to hold on in both sprints and route races over the main track.  Odds on favorite Guns Drawn the only wire to wire winner this far in seven dirt races. Several of the winners came from far back including Successful Party(5th), Country Green(7th) following a slow start and Stately Character(8th) who got his first win in nearly two years.

By the way, anyone who wagered on Andalusian in the fourth heat appears to have gotten robbed. The official finish was a dead heat between Andalusian and Almuraad although that decision was made because it was impossible to swee where Almuraad's nose actually was at the wire since the mirror image of the race apparently malfunctioned. IN the photo, however, Andalusian's nose was clearly on the wire while both his head and body were clearly in  front of Almuraad whose nose, on closer scrutiny, did not appear from the naked eye to be on the finish line. The photo just inconclusiveness enough to give the judges little option but to declare a dead heat.
