CALDER: Tahoe Warrior, Awesome Feather kick off Summit Stakes


Tahoe Warrior returned quick dividends off his recent claim when finishing full of run under jockey Edgar Prado to win the Bob Umphrey Turf Sprint Handicap. Haltered for $20,000 by trainer Rudy Rodriguez out of a winning effort at Belmont, Tahoe Warrior ran down game pace setter Chihulykee to win the Umphrey as the 2-1 favorite.

Awesome Feather outfinished a game Because I Like It to capture the J J'sdream Stakes for 2-year-old fillies. The winner is now perfect in two starts. Pretty Extravagent, the 8-5 favorite, had little excuse after racing in perfect striking position turning for home.

Little Drama could kick off a big day for trainer David Fawkes in the upcoming Frank Gomez Memorial. Little Drama is currently holding as the 2-1 favorite despite entering the Gomez a maiden. His big brother Big Drama goes as the liekly favorite in the Grade 2 Smile later on the card.
