CALDER: Speed still no good

After dominating the card on Friday, front runners  yet to find the winner's circle more than halfway through today's card.  Dixie Frolic the latest victim when failing to hold off the challenge of Lite Up The Stage through the stretch of a bottom level conditioned claimer going two turns.

Manoel Cruz, who relinquished the top spot in the jockey standings to Luis Saez on Friday, lost an opportunity to get one back with a poorly judged ride aboard well meant(and my selection) Proper Heiress in the sixth race when hauling his mount back and off the pace after showing early speed allowing himself to get outmoved to the lead by 3-1 Black Honor entering the far turn. To make matters worse,Cruz opted to dive inside the leader instead of staying outside his target when making a final bid near midstretch eventually falling about six inches short of the victory at a juicy 5-1.
