Calder: Slow track or....

.....slow horses.  Or perhaps a combination of both. Only way to explain the final times they've posted over the first four races on today's card. For instance the opener went in 1:09 and change which would be fine for six furlongs but this was five and one half. Serene Light rallied from off the pace at 6-1 to capture the low level conditioned claimer. The two six and one half furlong dashes on the program were completed in 1:22.60 and 1:21.60 respectively, split divisions of a bottom level maiden claimer for fillies and mares. Kristina Slew gutted out a narrow win over Blondie Jak in the first division while Fly Away Marija dominated the second split, winning off by half a pole over the 53-1 Iridescent Light. Poor Valentine's Angel had another bad trip and finished a tiring third.

The seventh race will offer the only true test of the track with a decent field of older, $6,250 starter horses slated to go seven furlongs. I'll make the over/under on the final time 1:26.20.  Any takers?
