Calder: Score one for the good guys

Everybody's favorite trainer Howie Tesher got his first win of the year when Nightof Power led from start to finish to capture this afternoon's third race under clever rating by leading rider Luis Saez. Night of Power was stretching out around two turns for the first time while making just his second start under a claiming tag. He paid $6.00.

Everybody still trying to figure out how second race winner Large Kaufy went off at 5-1 considering the 2-year--old son of Omega Code is trained by Wesley Ward, king of the 2-year-old trainers at this time of year. Large Kaufy was making his career debut in the maiden special weight dash for 2-year-old colts and geldings and led throughout before drawing away to a one sided victory. . He was ridden to victory by the up and coming Jesus Rios. Runner-up Mel Beach and Skibo in July both encountered traffic problems during the roughly run race.
