Calder: Rain forces McKnight off the turf

In what can only be described as a stroke of very bad luck for Calder, heavy rains have forced track management to take the Grade 2 W L McKnight Handicap off the turf. A move which automatically lowers the race to a Grade 3 and will ultimately end up reducing the size of the field to next to nothing. Musketier and Black Scorpion were already out and its almost certain Presious Passion will follow.  Telling has won on wettracks but has raced exclusively on turf for quite some time while neither Bold Hawk, Memorial Maniac, Simmard, Free Fighter or Rescus Squad have ever won a race on dirt. The major beneficiary will be PRince Will I Am, who is coming off arguably the best race of his career over the Churchill Downs main track in the Breeders' Cup Marathon.

The main track has also been downgraded so sloppy with lots of other scratches expected to be forthcoming shortly.
