Calder: One for the boys in Ocala

I have always maintained that allowing horses to race off the farm without a published work at the track was giving the folks in Ocala a license to steal and trainer James Kirk took advantage in the finale with Melody For Maria, a first time starter, who was pounded from start to finish then overcome a tough trip to win going away against a horrid field of bottom level platers. Despite her last two half mile works being :52 and change(not even sure if there is even a clocker at Classic Mile Training Center), Melody For Maria was 7-5 as the field loaded into the gate before drifting up to 2-1 and returning $6.40.
