Calder: Not a good day for speed again

Email

As was the case on Saturday, speed fared all right early in the day but struggled as the program wore on. After Special Song wired the opener and Pressure forced the pace and outgamed Nathan Ridge to take the second, front runners have struggled. Both grass races to this point were won from well off the pace and each of thelast three dirt winners also came from out of it including Soul Sister who overcame a slow start to run down the seemingly home free, loose on the lead favorite Niki's Ice in the 5th race.  The red hot Fundit, who does his best from far back, the 6-5 choice ini the eight although does catch a field lacking much in the way of any real pace.
