CALDER: Nice way to start the day...

if you bet on the 25-1 Sumphin in the opener. Sumphin rallied from perfect position behind a contested pace to wrest control in early stretch then withstood Bonboni to post his first victory of the season for trainer Tamara Levy and jockey Anthony Gallardo. Not sure how you come up with this one off his last three races in which he was defeated an average of 17 lengths against similar and just slightly tougher  opposition. The winner did have to survive a stewards inquiry posted as a result of the 8-5 Hyphen being steadied sharply in behind the winner by jockey Manoel Cruz in the opening furlong but the pan shot showed Sumphin was well clear of Hyphen at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile the main track is fast and the turf listed as "good" with the rail out 20 feet for today's card.
