CALDER: More crazy results

Chalkplayers are getting stuffed today.  The favorites are winless in four starts on today's card, several not even hitting the board.

The opener gave an indication of what was to come when the 0 for 18 Divine Colony circled the field and won off like a good thing at 30-1 giving both jockey A E Reid and trainer Daniel Gazader their first wins of the year. Lavish Roman was bet to 3-5 for his debut and raced in perfect position after ducking out sharply at the break but had little left for the final furlong and finished a tiring third.

Doctor Garrett was equally disappointing in the second race when unable to hold off the once classier B L's Noise who overcame a slow start and trouble on the turn to spring the upset.  Wildcat Gamble was also awful at odds in the third race, failing to muster a rally and finishing a bad third behind Doctor Lenny.  Wildcat Gamble was beaten at 2-5 in his previous start.

Nervous Marvin was just that in the starting gate before the fourth then got buried in traffic on the rail turning for home and in early stretch and could not recover when fourth at 3-5 behind Morgans Boy in the fourth, the afternoon's first turf affair.  Forget any times put up on the teletimer for this and all the rest of the grass races today with the rail out five feet since there are no beams on this course for that distance.  Obviously those :22 and change and :45 and change early splits and the 1:35 final time for this level of beaten claimers going a mile are too fast to be true.
