Calder: A maiden no longer

After going winless in 29 previous starts, Ruth Wonders suddenly woke up in the finale,  trouncing a field of bottom level maiden platers by about a dozen lengths while being geared down coming to the wire. In her last try against similar company around two turns, Ruth Wonders had finished fifth, beaten nearly 15 lengths. Despite her long record of futility, Ruth Wonders paid just $24. The win was the third from 48 starters in 2011 for trainer Walter Rosas-Canessa. She was ridden to victory by Daniel Coa who has won three races over the past four days.
