Calder: Gamer than Tracy

That was Tackleberry in the Fred Hooper Handicap. Tackleberry set a contested pace, appeared to relinquish the lead to Dream Maestro in early stretch then fought back resolutely along the rail to win the head bob and his first graded stakes.  Mambo Meister turned in a disappointing effort to finish third, drifting late while failing to kick on down the stretch despite sitting a perfect trip off the contested pace.  St. Maximus Gato was a major disappointment as was Chirac.  Good thing the Hooper was run after the American Graded Stakes Committee met last week or this one would have joined the other four Calder races on their list who lost Graded 3 status next year following this result.
