Calder: Five left in McKnight

Email

The change in venue from the grass to a sloppy  main track left five of the original ten scheduled starters for the McKnight which goes in 12 minutes.  Prince Will I Am, the only member of the field with any real proven form on dirt, opened at 1-9 and remains that price followed by Presious Passion at 9-2. Presious Passion has made 45 of his 48 lifetime starts on turf but did finish second over sloppy tracks in the 2009 Pan American at Gulfstream and the 2008 Battlefield Stakes at Monmouth Park.

The Mcknight, as noted before, will automatically be downgraded to a Grade 3 because of the surface change until reviewed by the National Graded Stakes Committee next week. With two Grade 1 winners still in the field, Prince Will I Am and Presious Passion, there's a strong chance the Committee will re-store the race's Grade 2 status.
