CALDER: First time starters off the farm

It's been a peeve of mine for years here that management continues to allow first time starters to race here straight off the farm with no locally recorded works in front of track clockers and having gotten a gate card from someone other than the local starter.  All of this is a recipe for disaster, either giving farm trainers a license to steal with phony works or an incident like the one which occured at the gate before the fourth race when farm shipper My Gal Mal wound up on the ground and under neath the gate and had to be scratched.   Somebody has to change this rule and make first timers, especially 2-year-olds, work at least once over the track and break out of the gate here at least once to be approved by the local starter.

The money talked in the fourth with the well bet firsters Because I Like It and Princabella finishing one-two, the winner taking all the early money and Princabella getting whacked from 5-1 to 2-1 in the final two minutes.

Speed has won the last two races over the main track after pace stalker My Golden Gal stalked the early leaders and drew off for fun in the opener giving jockey Abad Cabassa Jr his first win of the meet.
