Calder: Different horse on the lead

Cinnamon Road certainly a different horse when able to relax on the lead as he was able to do long enough in the seventh race to fend off a bid from 7-5 Wingedlie and gain his first victory since claimed by trainer David Braddy earlier this summer. The complexion of the race, originally scheduled for the turf, changing when moved to the main track and speed horse Gulf Ruckus came out giving Cinnamon Road a chance to clear the lead.

Hard to believe no inquiry sign was posted after Wingedlie racked up a couple of horses when angled sharply outside on the opening turn. An objection was lodged by the rider of third finisher Imawildandcrazyguy against Wingedlie who took out both Crazyguy and Excellent Soldier going into the turn. The stewards took quite some time to make up their minds before stangely  disqualifying Wingedlie from second and placing him third behind IMawildandcrazyguy but not behind Excellent Soldier who took the worst of the interference when forced out sharply into the turn.  The fact he finished far back should have no bearing here as it is hard to say how he might have fared if not forced to alter course and lose so much ground early in the race.
