CALDER: Chalky ending

Favorites dominated the final third of the card beginning with the 1-5 Americanrevolution in the seventh and continuing with the odds on Mallory Square and the 6-5 Celebrating Love in the finale.

Mallory Square benefitted when her race was switched from the turf to the main track then was all out to finally run down the 18-1 Future Heiress giving Manoel Cruz his second consecutive win.

Jockey Cecilio Penalba did his best to drop himself in the finale aboard Celebrating Love, running up inside pace setter Royalty Rules and steadying numerous times between the half mile and three furlong pole before finally catching a break when the leader drifted off the rail and allowed him ample room to slip through and avoid further trouble. The lack of any real competition from the others allowed the favorite to cruise him to her maiden win.

The racetrack arguably began to favor speed while drying out late in the day although hard to make an accurate assessment since the logical horses won all those races.
