Calder: Big 2yo winner

Saint Pete dominated the finale in just his second career start, winning off by himself despite swerving in sharply while well clear near midstretch. The maiden special weight dash was the first six furlong race for juvenile this season and the winner ran fast, covering the distance in 1:12. The lone caveat to the big effort the fact he rode a big speed bias to the wire to wire victory.

Leading rider Luis Saez polished off a personal four bagger with a victory aboard Famous Patriot in the ninth race. The even money favorite tripped out perfectly just off the leader, drew off readily despite failing to change leads until deep stretch.

Tomorrow is the big one, the Summit of Speed, with four graded stakes including the very competitive Grade 1 Princess Rooney and equally tough and loaded, Grade 2 Smile.
