Email

Here are the final fields that were drawn today for the 15 Breeders' Cup races, followed by some leaderboards and fun facts regarding the records and origins of the 180 final entrants, who have combined to win 788 of 2,122 career starts and earn $113.2 million.

There were 14 withdrawals or exclusions, eight of them 2-year-olds, between pre-entries a week ago and today's draws: Cozi Rosie (FMT), Fantasia (FMT), Hunt Crossing (JS), Learn (JT), Liquidity Trap (JT), Right to Vote (J), Rule (DM), Sabercat (J), Sky High Lady (JF), Spirited Miss (JFT), Tizway (C), Tutti Buonna Gente (MAR), Two Months Rent (JT) and Winchester (T).

Here are the top 10 entrants by starts, victories and earnings. There are 30 millionaires among the 180 entrants, even following the withdrawals of Winchester ($1.59 million), Tizwat ($1.35 million) and Rule ($1.01 million):

152 of the 180 entrants were bred in the United States, 106 of them in Kentucky. Sixteen stallions are represented by three or more Cup entrants, led by Kitten's Joy with six and Dynaformer and Tapit with five each:

Now start handicapping already. The pp's are up and it's only 94 hours until the Juvenile Sprint.

I think Uncle Mo is a colt with a lot of still untapped potential. But that said, I also believe he's the biggest lay of the entire Breeders Cup meeting. Nothing in his pedigree, or what he's done on the racetrack either for that matter says to me that he'll stay the 1-1/4 trip in the Classic. Plus, he's got a very wide PP draw to try and overcome as well. I just don't believe 2 races at 7f and a mile all season long will have Mo prepared for the number of horses in the Classic field that are proven G1 stakes winners at 1-1/4. In my mind, So You Think is the class horse of the entire BC Classic field. By a street. If he's able to handle the switch in surfaces without any problem, it's game over. The rest are running for 2nd place $$$. You'd be hard pressed to name a horse that's been as consistent of a performer at the 1-1/4 distance as So You Think has been over the past 2 seasons. On any surface. I think his high cruising speed and ability to stay 1-1/4 without tiring at all will be the difference maker in this race. I like So You Think to win the Classic. Boxed in a tri-fecta with Flat Out and Havre De Grace to complete my tri-fecta. JMO.

Happy about the Euros not being able to work over the turf course. I would believe that their workouts would be too late to report in the form. Am i correct Steve? I like quite a few longshots tomorrow especially in the sprint...I also like atfields horse in the filly and mare turf. She seems to be rounding into form at the right time.

Life @ Ten was something that should never have happened. These world-class connections should not have been suspect, as well as steward John Veitch. The horse just didn't engage tbe field following a poor warm up appearance. Neither did Big Brown run and the list goes on. The communications set-up this year will do nothing to prevent anything. Ah, Barbaro breaking out of the gate. "Suppose to do" is what the game is all about. No one wants any ill-will to happen ~ ever. The connections and stewards took it on the chin. Soon will reporters take a seat in the penalty box at a hockey game. Escort a ball player back to the locker room to watch them recoup. Johnny V had already warmed-up 10,000+ horses. He was going to ride it, in the only occupation where an ambulance follows you. Now this year, we will see the same connections, who scratched very late from the Derby for the safety and soundness of the horse, come back to the BC and win with Uncle Mo. Some vindication. And how the headlines will change. Not only will their diligence, as always show, but their class and composure as credits to the game. Go get'em Johnny V, Todd, and John Veitch.

wayne lucas did not become one of the all time great trainers by accident. I belive he knows his entry in the juvenile optimizer can handle the dirt. I was on in in his debut at the spa to the tune of $58. he is also a homebred (bluegrass hall). entry in this race instead of the juv. turf speeks loudly to me. BOMBS AWAY!!!!!

Steve, Great chart. Any idea if NYRA Rewards will accept 50 cent bets on the BC pick threes and fours? They often make you bet $1 minimums even when other tracks offer 50 cents and it drives me nuts. Thanks

So you think?? This horse is a monster. breedding alone wins it for him. The trainer is a genious and has the rider who knows this horse well. Adrian has a bullet in almost every race and all live. this one shoots the lights out. if he is leading 1/8 out get the party glass out and hope Flat out comes second cause this ticket is gold. I will be wheeling them two with all for the trifecta and super. You don't win 7 million overseas being ordinary. Uncle MO will nto even hit the board. longshots for a piece are the Mott horses. My best bet of the day Saturday is Tallure!!. saw him win at Woodbine and did nto even see him sweat he was under wraps coming at the line. good luck to all. as always easier on paper

Pat, I think your're assessment of So You Think is spot on!! The horse is a total beast at the 1-1/4 distance, and Aidan O'Brien is indeed a genius trainer!! Love the style that he train's his horses with in Ireland for Coolmore-Ballydoyle. I believe So You Think will stalk whoever goes out on the pace. Because O'Brien will want Ryan Moore to try and avoid as much dirt blow back coming into So You Think's face as possible. But once Moore makes that big move with So You Think just over a furlong out, if his cruising speed immediately slingshots him past whoever's in front, he's not for catching. He's already held off better horses at this distance in Workforce and Snow Fairy than anything he's facing in the BC Classic. I also like Flat Out to run 2nd in this race, and I think her pure talent will also get Havre De Grace a place spot in the Classic, too.
