On the track, BLACK CAVIAR was part beauty, part beast and all racehorse.
Like her European contemporary, the mighty Frankel, the sensational Australian mare never disappointed her adoring public. An unblemished record after 25 starts is an amazing feat. Sprinkle in 15 Group 1 victories, a successful trip to Royal Ascot, and a triumphant farewell tour after returning from injury and we have a compelling athlete, an equine that captivated the racing world. "Brilliant" is a word thrown around far too liberally as it pertains to today's stars, but Black Caviar truly epitomized the term. She was untouchable at sprint distances and her victories were usually of the romping variety. She only gave her fans a scare on one occasion, the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. It was the single time in Black Caviar's life that she won by less than a length and some observers believed that jockey Luke Nolen misjudged the finish line that afternoon. Still, she saw it through and truly cemented her legacy as a national living legend.
Her connections must be applauded for campaigning her aggressively and seeking new challenges, such as the Royal Ascot excursion. Moody could have retired Black Caviar after the Diamond Jubilee. Certainly she'd done enough, was worth ten times her weight in gold as a broodmare prospect, and suffered from a torn quadriceps to boot.
But in the true spirit of racing, Moody brought Black Caviar back for a 2013 campaign that resulted in three giant performances, culminating with a three-length procession in the Darley T J Smith Stakes last Saturday.
Racing fans have been thrilled in recent years by the powerful exploits of Zenyatta, Frankel and Black Caviar.
Now, "Nelly" is going home.
Black Caviar's lifetime past performances are available at the bottom of this blog post.

re: points system
..So, I compiled a list of the points leaders for the KY Oaks who are TRIPLE CROWN NOMINATTED.
Beholder - 164 points
Unlimited Budget - 160 points
Dreaming of Julia - 132 points
Flashy Gray - 60 points
Princess of Sylmar - 50 points
Spring Venture - 10 points
Based on what the KY Oaks website indicated about 'points' and they can be applied to the KY Derby ... though unlikely, my question is IF the connections wanted to run their filly in the KY Derby then they could, Right ?
If so, I'm surprised that there is no chatter or speculation as this would make a nice angle for a KY Derby topic ...especially with Dreaming Of Julia ...or maybe they just don't know an option is there, hmm? Then again, I just may be wrong with my interpretation of all this :)
Oaks points cannot be applied to the Kentucky Derby. The only way a filly could gain Derby points is to compete in an open prep race. Dreaming of Julia, and the other excellent fillies that you mentioned, will be excluded from the Derby if there are over 20 entrants.
Congrats to STAN LOTTES for finishing first in last week's HandiGambling exercise.
PENN NATIONAL RICK'S WEEKLY SCORESHEET IS AVAILABLE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS BLOG POST.
Let's go with Friday's ninth race, the Grade 3 Doubledogdare Stakes at Keeneland for this week's event.
PAST PERFORMANCES ARE AVAILABLE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS BLOG POST.
Remember that you have a mythical $100 with which to wager on the race, and the entrant with the highest money total will receive a "Monthly Enhanced 60-Card Past Performance Plan."
Anyone going over the $100 limit will be disqualified.
Please post your plays and analysis to the blog.
PLEASE GIVE YOUR NAME OR BLOG MONIKER AT THE END OF THE HG PLAY AND/OR ANALYSIS.
Please separate the play from the analysis and label the play "HG" with the program numbers (instead of the horse's name) for easier scoring.
In the event of a tie, the earliest post gets first preference. One entry per person please.
I reserve the right to approve or deny any entries.
I know that there is a time issue for some of you, but let's remember why we began the HandiGambling races in the first place. The goal was to share ideas on why we like these horses, and why we're betting them the way we are. I'm not asking for a novel, but if you could spare a sentence or two outlining your handicapping angles, and thought processes about wagering, it would be appreciated.
***FROM SCOREKEEPER PENN NATIONAL RICK***
I read some entries on here and there are some people who put their heart out on their picks(such as DavidM9999) and give you great analysis on who they like and why and then there are others who elect not to give any reasoning behind their entries. The rule I will implement EFFECTIVE 3/1/13 will be... any entry without ANY analysis will be ignored. We are not asking you to put out a novel, but again a sentence or two. Also, I will put communication out when Dan puts out new blogs.
My intent is not to be jerk on this, but what's fair is fair. I'm not taking away from this week or past winners regarding all of this, but we do need to make the change.
If you have any questions/concerns...please send an email to FORMBLOG@DRF.COM and it will get forwarded to me.
REMEMBER, IF YOU ARE DECLARED THE WINNER OF THE HANDIGAMBLING EXERCISE; PLEASE CONTACT FORMBLOG@DRF.COM WITH YOUR DRF LOGIN AND PASSWORD IN ORDER TO ACCESS YOUR PRIZE PACKAGE.
ALSO, IF THE WINNER WOULD LIKE TO SELECT THE FOLLOWING WEEK'S RACE, PLEASE CONTACT FORMBLOG@DRF.COM NO LATE THAN THE FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY MORNING (A FRIDAY RACE IS MOST IDEAL).
Best of luck to all.
