Belmont: Trappe Shot prevails in return

Overcoming a stumble at the start and a late lead change in the stretch, Trappe Shot (8th, $3.90) finished determinedly in his 4-year-old bow to edge D' Funnybone by a half-length in the $60,000 Waldoboro overnight stakes.

Deputy Daney, the 8-1 outsider in a field that scratched down to four, sped clear through fractions of 22.37 and 45.09. D' Funnybone wrested command in midstretch, but was unable to fend off Trappe Shot, who ran six furlongs in 1:09.03 on a fast main track.

Rule by Night, also making his first start of the year, was a non-threatening third as the 9-5 second choice. Deputy Daney faded to fourth.

Heading into the nightcap, four horses - Deputy's Citizen, Exonerated, Moonwalk Beauty and Tidal Slam - are covered in the pick-6. A win by someone else would result in a $34,182 carryover.
