Belmont Park: Rutherienne's sister wins first time out

Ruthenia, a 2-year-old full sister to the multiple stakes winner and $1.2 million earner Rutherienne, benefitted from an aggressive ride from Alan Garcia to win her career debut while returning a surprisingly high $42.40 to boot.  Ruthenia, owned and bred by Virginiak Kraft Payson and trained by Christophe Clement, raced an up close third early before taking over at the eighth pole and drawing clear by 3 1-2 lengths.

Town Flirt, even-money favorite based on runner-up to BC Juvenile Fillies Turf favorite Winter Memories last out, got used in speed duel. That plus, she was taken out of gate to be moved one slot to the right after Rock Hard Sue was a late scratch by track vet after she opend her stall door on her own.

Ramon Dominguez had to jump off Town Flirt when she acted up while being transported one stall spot. Doesn't really seem fair to have to move horses one stall after they've been standing in gate for long time.

Meanwhile, horses that closed well when beaten over speed-favoring Saratoga strip, continue to do well at Sarartoga. Hungry Island, third in the Winter Memories, Town Flirt race when 18 lengths back early, closed strongly again in this spot to get second by a nose over Flying Vision, who was fifth in the same race. Flying Vision is a half-sister to Tapitsfly, last year's BC Juvenile Fillies Turf winner.
