Belmont Park: Idol Image purse money only; Wanted Alive scratched

Two favorites scratched out of the same race. To quote the New York Post's Cindy Adams. Only in New York kids, Only in New York.

It only took until 9 minutes to post for the stewards to figure out that Idol Image should be running for purse money only.

The past performance line for this horse's last race --- a second-place finish on Wednesday --- was not in Daily Racing Form or the track program, so it was necessary to make the horse run for purse money only. Problem was, the horse was bet down to 2-1 favoritism before the stewards finally figured it out.

With four minutes to post the new favorite, Wanted Alive, was scratched by the stewards.  With the race scratched down to five betting interests, NYRA had to refund all trifecta and superfecta wagers. The new favorite is Bindle Stick, a horse who is 1 for 20. The good news is he only has to finish second in order for his backers to get paid.
