Belmont Park: Fast and firm for now ...

Email

Conditions are fast and firm to begin the proceedings at Belmont Park. But rain is forecast for mid-to-late afternoon which is why 1) post times are being sped up to the point where last post is 4:45 instead of 5:17 and 2) main-track only entrants for races 7 and 9 are still in.

Key scratches include Buttonfront (7-2 second choice) in the fourth and Tillie's Girl (3-1 second chioce) in the sixth.

NYRA's bad luck as far as its weekend stakes program is concerned continued with news that defending Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner Shared Account would not run in Saturday's New York Stakes. Trainer Graham Motion said has not been 100-percent right since she worked last weekend.

This news comes after Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty developed a temperature that knocked her out of the Mother Goose. Earlier in the week, Black-Eyed Susan winner Royal Delta was declared from the Mother Goose due to a bruised foot. That bad luck combined with the fact the Mother Goose comes just two weeks after the Acorn, leaves that race with a field of five led by beaten Oaks favorite Joyful Victory.
