Belmont Park: Dominguez has 5 winners; 3 mounts left

Ramon Dominguez has ridden five winners through the first seven races run at Belmont on Sunday and he has three chances to equal or set the New York Racing Association recored for wins on a single card.

There have been numerous jockeys to win six races on a NYRA card, the last to do so being John Velazquez on Sept. 3, 2001 at Saratoga, according to the NYRA media guide. Dominguez did win six consecutive NYRA races over a two-day period (Feb. 7-8, 2009), equaling a record shared by Stewart Elliott, Steve Cauthen, Jeffrey Fell, Jorge Velasquez, and Jerry Bailey. Velasquez went 6 for 6 on the July 9, 1981 card.

Dominguez won Sunday's opener with Saginaw ($3). After not riding the second and getting beat a head on Rail Trip in the Easy Goer Stakes, Dominguez reeled off four consecutive winners on Bellamy Star ($11.40) in the Xtra Heat Stakes, Little Larky ($9.30) in a New York-bred miaden claimer, Darrin's Dilemma ($7.10) in the Spectacular Bid Division of the New York Stallion Stakes, and Show Trial ($3.40) in a $7,500 claimer.

Dominguez, 34, rides Bramtpon in the eighth, Hessonite (2-1 morning line favorite) in the Cupecoy's Joy Division of the NY Stallion Stakes and Giarixa (2-1 morning line favorite) in the 10th.

Dominguez has ridden five winners on a NYRA card on several occasions, including back on Jan. 8.
