Belmont Park: Captivating Cat stumbles badly in return

Captivating Cat, a lightly-raced 6-year-old away from the races for 17 months, stumbled badly  under Cornelio Velasquez leaving the gate and could do no better than fourth, behind 10-1 shot My Charming Clyde ($22), ridden to victory by David Cohen for trainer Anthony Pecoraro.

Captivating Cat is a royally-bred horse, a 6-year-old son of Storm Cat out of the multiple Grade 1 winning mare Exotic Wood. He has obviously had his issues as his past performances lines ---- as noted by NYRA racing analyst Jason Blewitt --- show races on a dirt main track at Santa Anita back in 2007. If he sticks around long enough, perhaps he can return to Santa Anita when that track returns to dirt this coming December. Sure they have plent of $25,000 claimers out there as well.

By the way, think David Cohen and his agent, Bill Castle, wouldn't mind seeing Ramon Dominguez spend the winter in south Florida ---  not expected to happen by the way. Cohen would then be able to contend for leading rider. Cohen has now 14 wins at this meet.
