Belmont: Key scratches in pick-six

The main track is fast and the turf courses will be labeled good for Wednesday's card, which features a pick-six carryover of $1.1 million. The pick-six begins with race 4, or 2:36 p.m. Eastern. There is a noticeable breeze that will be blowing in the horse's faces down the backstretch and at their backs in the homestretch.

The rails are down on both turf courses.

The two most inscrutable races in the sequence appear to be the eighth and ninth and they got even more inscrutable after scratches.

In the eighth, D J's Revenge and Sully's Landing scratched allowing Saratoga Steve to get in. Saratoga Steve could be dangerous in this heat.

In the ninth, R Clever Cat, the mysterious drop down horse and 8-5 morning-line favorite is out. R Clever Cat may have been a single for many people just because. Galaxy Jet and Copious Notes are the must-uses in this humble handicapper's opinion.

The only other scratch in the sequence is Keep It a Secret, who was a minor player at best in the fifth race.  The main-track only entrants in the seventh are out.
